Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar
Lt Gen Madhuri Kanitkar PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd) is a decorated soldier who has served for 39 years in the Army Medical Corps of the Indian Armed Forces. She is a medical graduate of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune University and Postgraduate in MD (Pediatric) from Indian Naval Hospital Ship (INHS), Asvini. She has had the distinction of being first in Pune University in all the three phases of MBBS. On superannuation she was appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, a State Health university affiliating over 600 colleges from the health Faculties
She is a Pediatric Nephrologist who has done her post- graduation in Pediatrics from Mumbai in 1990 and Training in Pediatric Nephrology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, followed by Fellowships at NUH Singapore and GOS London. She has also completed the FAIMER Fellowship in Medical Education.
She has been Professor and Head of Pediatrics at AFMC and also the Dean at her Alma Mater. She has over 30 years of teaching experience and was awarded Best Teacher of MUHS in 2008. She is known to work for students’ welfare. Under her leadership the officers, faculty and staff of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences have undertaken many innovative initiatives in a time bound manner to improve quality of health education, Student welfare measures and Research at the University. Her vision and contribution towards a holistic approach to wellness through integration across the Faculties of Health Education have been noteworthy.
She has over a hundred publications and contributed to chapters in Pediatric and Nephrology textbooks. Her area of expertise and research have been the Bladder and Voiding disorders in children.
For her distinguished service Gen Kanitkar has been awarded Param Vishist Seva Medal in 2022, Ati Vishist Seva Medal in 2018, Vishist Seva Medal in 2014. She serves as a member on the Prime Ministers Science Technology and Innovation Advisory Council.
